Why did God instruct Israel to build a sanctuary that seemed to limit access to His presence? Why didn't He invite all of them into the Holy Place to show His presence to them?
I think that God had the sanctuary designed in such a way that it limited access to himself because the people could not survive long in his presence. Ever since sin humans have been separated from God. So with the sanctuary system if the people had been aloud to go before God they most likely would not have survived. Like the Israelites said if they saw God’s presence they would die.
I think that God had originally intended for them to be able to come in to his presence, or at least a form of his presence. But in the sanctuary God dwelled as the shekinah glory, and anyone who looked at it would die (except the high priest). Therefore, He couldn't let everyone have easy access to Him. But, God did not exist just in the sanctuary. He also had the Tent of Meeting, where he could be more easily approached by Moses and the people. Sadly, that's where the Israelites chose to allow God to be after Sinai. ~BRoAD valleY
At the point that God told the Isrialites to build a temple that would limit the peoples acses to Him Jesus hadn't sacrificed himself yet and any exposure to God would kill any sinner.
God had Israel build the sanctuary so that he could be in contact with him. Moses came down from the mountain and invited everyone to come and meet with God, but they rejected God because they were scared of Him. God had them build the Most Holy place so that he could be with the people. He wished to be with his creations though he may seem limited. He didn’t invite them in because he wanted the people that wished to be with him to come, not those who didn’t want to be there. -ROB
God instructed Israel to build a sanctuary so that God could dwell among them; to be with them every where they go. God did not invite everyone into the holy place because they were afraid. The people of Israel chose to have a high priest. The high priest to be an intercessor between God and them. Jesus is now acting as our high priest and He now is cleansing the sanctuary. –J Navonod
God requested that the children of Israel create a sanctuary that included a Most Holy Place for their own good. He did it for two reasons. The first being that ever since the beginning of sin, Man has been separated from God. Man's sinful nature makes it impossible to be in the presence of a God who is pure and holy; thus, God had to create some sort of barrier between Him and His children. The second reason being because of the people's reaction to God's request for them join Him up on the mountain. It was again because of their sinful nature that they could not be in the presence of God. This is why the High Priest had to cleanse himself before he entered the presence of God, so that he wouldn't be afraid or die.
God instructed the Israelites to build the Sanctuary that seemed to have limited access to Him because that is what they wanted. When Moses got the "ok" for them to be able to go up the mountain they turned tails and ran in fear. They did not want to be in God's presence and they had appointed Moses to go in front of Him instead. That was what the Sanctuary was based upon. When Moses was dead they appointed his sons and his offspring to be the high priests that would go before God in The Most Holy Place and perform the Cleansing process of the Sanctuary.
i think God instructed the Israelites to build the Sanctuary with limited access to Him is because they were afraid tht they might die in his holy and precise presence. When the israelites were allowed to go up to the mountain the were afraid. they were afraid because they didnt think they were worthy enough to see Him. THis is why the had a High priest go into the mst holy place because he worked as an intercessor. He would go in and talk to God for us.
I think that God made the Isralites to build a sanctuary that would limit his presence for our their safety. No man or women is able to survive being in God's presence, because sin cannot be in his presence. And God does want to be with all of us, but because of us he can't be. Like in Mount Sinai when God came down to talk to Moses and then talked to the Isralites they were scared. And because of their sinful nature they said "Speak thou with us, and we will hear: but let not God speak with us, lest we die." (Exodus 20: 19)
Ive always wondered why God instructed Israel to build a sanctuary in which he could dwell and they could go be with him wen in reality only certain people could really go into it. but i think that the reason God did this was because of the choice Israel had made. we had a pastor come in and talk to us bout the sanctuary and he made a really good point. He said that the reason for the sanctury was because Israel had made a decision not to meet with God without an intecesor. i think the reason why God didnt invite all of them into the Holy place and into His precense was because Israel wanted someone to interceed for them. this someone came in the form of a high priest until later on Christ came and died for us on the cross and took on the title of our High Priest and did away with the need for an earthly Sanctuary. I think that God instructed Israel to build the sanctuary to limit access to His presence because He wanted to show them how powerful and holy he was. I think that God wanted to be more of a mystery to the Israelites and that is why He didn't directly show his presence to them and also the Israelites couldn't actually see God or else they would die.
