Queston for week of September 8

Why do you think the author of Hebrews does not identify himself?

  1. I believe that the author of hebrews does not reveal himself because at the time if you put your writen documents in you would have to have met Jesus and have been taught by him. The person tho made Hebrews probably never saw Jesus but knew the old testement and herd whar Paul had to say about Jesus and made the conections and printed his rendition comparing the old and new textement.

  3. I believe that the person who wrote Hebrews did not identify himself because he probably felt it was irrelevant. And felt that people should instead be looking at the things wiritten in the book. And gain a better understanding of Christ.

  4. I believe the Author does not reveal himself because it is not relevant. He wrote the book of Hebrew so that people could learn more about God, not about himself. It is inappropriate to the book to say who wrote it. It is about God not himself. –J Navonod

  5. I think the author doesnt reveal himself because he wants the message of God to come out. The author wanted people to know who God was. Pastor Groff's theory sounds accurate. Hebrews sounds more like a sermon, and maybe while he was preaching someone was writing it down.

  7. I believe that the author did not reveal himself because he wanted to get the message across that we need to have faith and not worry about who wrote it. he wanted the book to be a general message to all who read it and realize that we cannot do things on our own, But through God

  8. I think that the author does not reveal himself in Hebrews because he does not think that it was an important fact. He wanted people to know that everything he said was of God and he didn't want to take credit. Also, it could be that because his writings were written as speeches that he never thought it was important to take written credit, being that he probably had no idea that his writings would later on become a very important book in the Bible.

  9. Maybe the writer got so excited about the message that he totally forgot to sign it?
When I first read Hebrews, I thought, "Wow. I really like this guy whoever it is. He makes a lot of sense." Later when I read Romans, I thought the same thing about that writer. So it makes sense to me that the words are Paul's. I think that the ideas and logic are Paul's, but the writer wanted to make his mark as insignificant as possible so he wouldn't detract from the message. If his Greek was THAT good, maybe he was just being humble.

  10. I believe that the author of Hebrews didn’t reveal himself because he wanted everyone who read it to apply it to their lives. The author’s background may have made people uneasy about what he was saying. But if there is no author, then no one can appose its words and meaning. I believe it may be a good thing we don’t know who wrote it. We will now try to look at the book more intently to try to find the author. We might not have if he had told us. -ROB

  11. I believe that the reason the author of Hebrews decides to remain a mystery is so that the reader's focus remains on the message of Hebrews rather than on the writer. The author probably realized the importance of what God is tryin to reveal to us therefore he focused solely on the message from God.

  12. I believe that the author of Hebrews does not identify who he is because it is of no significants to the understanding of the book. Any benfits to knowing who the author was would be outweighed by the negitive consequences. I believe that the author was very prudent in remaining anonymous because if his name was known people would hold him in high esteem and would not give God the credit for the wisdom imparted through Hebrews.

  13. in listening to what pastor groff was saying about Hebrews, i think that the reasong why the author of Hebrews does not make himself know is because he is not writing in his own words but according to what he heard from someone else; therefore, he doesnt think it to be necessary to share his identity with others. we can get the full meaning of Hebrews without knowing who wrote it...which many of us have!

  14. I think that the author didnt reveal himself because he may not have known that he was an author in the first place. It must have been understood that the people he was writing too knew who he was. I dont think that the author is as important as what he says. What he says reveals truths about God and brings us closer to him
