Question for the week of September 28

Why do you think Hebrews 11 devotes so much time to two people, Abraham and Moses?

  1. I think that part of the reason that Hebrews 11 spends so much time talking about Moses and Abraham is do to the fact that these two men were two the Hebrews like George Washington and Thomas Jefferson are to Americans. So when the Jews started reading about Moses and Abraham having faith, they would definitely agree. For a Jew it was considered to be a high honor to be able to trace your ancestry back to Abraham. For our generation I think that the attention paid to Moses and Abraham in Hebrews 11 shows us that if two men who messed up as much as they did could find favor with God then we can to not by our own might but by leaning on God like Moses and Abraham learned to do.

  2. Hebrews 11 is known to us as the faith chapter. In it we read great examples of the ultimate faith in Christ. I believe that the reason that this chapter spends so much time on Moses and Abraham is because it shows us a great lesson about faith. These to men were far from perfect. In fact they were bitter sinners just like you and i, yet they had extraordinary faith in Christ no matter where it took them. I think these men were used in this chapter as encouragemnet to us readers that faith doesn't necessarily come from extraordinary, perfect people. It comes from those that fail and yet through faith in Christ are successful.

  3. While reading Hebrews 11 I have noticed as it was talking about faith Abraham and Moses were mentioned a lot and I thought about the stories that were told about them and remembered that they were both very faithful men. Abraham was put in a circumstance where he had to trust God to kill his son and he had faith even though he felt that it did not make any sense. Moses also had to trust God when he faced the Pharaoh and warned him about what would come. Hebrews 11 included these two men not because they had the most faith of every one, but I think because they were both good examples of faith.

  4. Many people in the Bible had faith. Chapeter 11 of Hebrews is a chapter centered around faith in Christ; but anyone can have faith so why were Moses and Abraham the main people spoken of in this chapter? well, i think that a huge reason for this is the fact that Abraham and Moses were both really "big" and popular men in their time and many people admired and looked to them for guidance and leadership. Moses was a great leader who led the Israelites out of slavery. God trusted him with a huge task and he delivered well. Abraham was became known as the father of many nations and he was very loyal and faithful to God. Both of these men had a certain level of power, wealth, and faith in Christ; therefore, i think that their being mentioned so much in this chapter served as a sense of example for those in that time and even people today that Christ can use anybody no matter wat your social status is or reputation and all you need is faith!

  5. I think that Hebrews 11 talks a lot about Abraham and Moses because they were both great leaders. They were both to be an example to the rest of the camp of Israel. And although imperfect like ourselves they were to serve a greater purpose. And they were to serve this greater purpose through the faith they had in God. Because they "looked to the reward" and not to the earthly pleasures.

  6. In the bible, Abraham and Moses are both men who walked closely with God and were prophets. They were great leaders and both succeeded in convincing their people to put faith in God. They both obeyed God, and put their trust in them. If Abraham and Moses are looked up to by Christians in today’s age, imagine how important and influential they were when they were leading their people. Hebrews 11 is also considered the faith chapter, and Abraham and Moses had a tremendous amount faith in God. They are perfect examples of men with great faith.

  7. I think Hebrews 11 devotes so much time to Moses and Abraham because they had a lot of faith for the things they had to do. As soon as i here Abraham's name i think of him having to kill his son. Abraham had a lot of faith and trust in God to kill his son. he was devoted to God. When i hear Moses' name i think of him trying to help the Israelites, and the Pharaoh making conditions harder for the Israelites. But by faith he kept going. this shows me whether a big or small task we should always have faith in God.

  8. I believe that Abraham and Mosas were people that the readers understood. the people would have heard the stories of both peaple of faith throuought there lives and sience Abraham and Mosas had sush great faith thay are prime examples of how the people of the time should be.

  9. I was thinking about how Hebrews is the faith chapter and how Moses and Abraham were two main people that were mentioned as people with very strong faith. Hebrews devotes a lot of time to these two people because it wants to get the point across that as Abraham and Moses we have to have a lot of faith in God and not in our selves. Abraham could have not listened God and gone ahead and left the mountain with out doing what God asked but since he had faith in God he was willing to accept that God knew what he was doing. The same goes with Moses he could have chickened out and not gone in front of Pharaoh to demand that his people go free.

  10. Hebrews 11 is known as the faith chapter in the bible, so i believe that the chapter talks a lot about Moses and Abraham because those men had a lot of faith in God. Moses had faith in God when He told him to go and save His people from the Egyptians. And Abraham had enough faith in God that he was willing to kill his own son Isaac just because He told him to.

  11. Abraham and Moses were two of the most important people to the Jews. Father Abraham is their cornerstone patriarch--the one whom God told He would give descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky. Abraham also knew how God would one day feel when he was giving up his only son Isaac as a sacrifice.
Moses was the leader of the Exodus. He was the Jews great deliverer, and the one who pulled them through the Passover, parted the Red Sea, and helped them establish the Tabernacle, God's dwelling place.
Both of these people knew God face to face, and were alive during landmark times for the Hebrews. They knews exactly who these two were and revered them very highly, above anyone else named in the faith chapter. These two patriarchs were the keys to their hearts, and I believe that's why the author devoted so much more to describing the "father" and the "deliverer" to the readers than the others.

  12. i think that Hebrews 11 spends so much time on these two people because they were great examples of faith. Both Abraham and Moses talked directly to God and He talked back. And i think that they actually heard him clearly and took what he had to say. There were many times in the Bible where God talk to people; however, they would do what they wanted and wouldn't listen to what God had to say to them. Both these men had faith in God and trusted in what He wanted them to do no matter what they were feeling. ROB

  13. I think Hebrews spends so much time talking about Moses and Abraham because of their amazing faith. These were two great men of God, and I think that the writer of Hebrews believed that they were men everyone should know about. Why in school do we learn about George Washington or Martin Luther King? Because they did something great, everyone should learn about them because of how they made a difference. Hebrews spends so much time talking about Moses and Abraham because of the great things they did for God. -J Navonod
